Evonik commences construction of methionine complex in Singapore

Evonik broke ground for a €500 million (S$765 million) facility on 2 July. The venture is the company's largest single largest global investment to date, and also the first world-scale methionine plant supplying the Asian growth markets. When fully operational in 2014, the plant will have an annual production capacity of 150,000 metric tonnes per annum, more than 25% of the company's total methionine production capacity. Methionine is an important amino-acid component of animal feed, which will play a vital role in satisfying the nutritional needs of the increasing global population. Minister Trade & Industry was Guest-Of-Honour at the groundbreaking ceremony.
