Shell expanding Jurong Island ethylene cracker

More investments are coming to Jurong Island. Shell is expanding its upstream ethylene cracker - core to its US$3 billion Shell Eastern Petrochemicals Complex (SEPC) here - to ramp up production of olefins and aromatics by over 20 per cent to meet in-house needs as well as the needs of customers. No investment sum was cited, but the debottlenecking of the cracker - boosting its production of petrochemicals like ethylene, propylene and benzene to one million tonnes per annum (tpa) from the current 800,000 tpa - should easily run into hundreds of millions of dollars.
