Lanxess breaks ground for 2nd synthetic rubber plant

Despite the global economic slowdown, Germany's Lanxess broke ground as scheduled yesterday for its second synthetic rubber plant investment on Jurong Island - just months before its first plant, currently being built, starts up in the first quarter of next year. Both will make key materials used in making so- called "green" tyres, which help save on fuel and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. The projects reflect the specialty chemicals group's confidence that growth in the global automotive industry will continue.
