EPC Contract Awarded To JV For Refinery And Petrochemical Complex In Vietnam


A Joint Venture formed by Chiyoda Corp., JGC Corp., Technip, and South Korean contractors GS Engineering & Construction and SK Engineering & Construction announced today that it has won an EPC Contract for the Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Complex in the Nghi Son economic zone in northern Vietnam. JGC will act as the Joint Venture leader.

The client is Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Limited Liability Company which is a joint venture formed by Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd (35.1%), Kuwait Petroleum International (35.1%), Vietnam Oil and Gas Corporation (25%) and Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. (4.8%).

The site of the Petrochemical project is located in the Thanh Hoa Province in Vietnam, 200 km south of the capital of Hanoi.

The scope of work includes execution of engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) and commissioning work for a 200,000 BPD (barrels per day) refinery and petrochemical complex under a lumpsum turnkey (LSTK) conrtact. The Contract amount was not disclosed.

This project is a grassroots oil refinery and petrochemical complex, which will be the second in Vietnam. It’s purpose is to satisfy the increasing demand for petroleum products in Vietnam as well as to produce petrochemicals for export. The Nghi Son Refinery and petrochemical complex together with the Dung Quat Refinery, Vietnam’s first refinery, will support Vietnams economic development.
